Further anxiety about expats’ future in Europe has been heaped on this week by an EU report leaked to The Guardian into the legal impact of Britain’s withdrawal from the EU. In it the European parliament’s legal affairs committee reportedly says it will be down to each member state to decide whether British citizens are allowed to carry on living within their respective borders after 2019.

The group has backed the Choose Freedom Campaign, which wants Brussels to protect expats’ rights once the UK exits the EU. Its European Citizens’ Initiative needs one million signatures from at least seven European countries for legislation to be put before the European parliament.

The European Commission is being asked to consider issuing EU passports to British people in danger of losing their right to free movement after Brexit. The Commission will be forced to consider the proposal if a million EU citizens from across the bloc put their names to an EU citizens’ initiative backing the proposal.

En un reciente testimonio en Westminster, los británicos Sue Wilson (en representación de Bremain in Spain) y Christopher Chantrey (como portavoz de los expatriados en Francia) pidieron a Threresa May que tenga "un gesto magnánimo" y que sea la primera en mover piezas para desbloquear la situación.
