Expat voters hold the balance of power in 19 municipalities in the Valencia Region, according to regional councillor for citizenship and solidarity Rafael Blasco.

Figures published this week show that nearly 115,000 non-Spaniards have signed on the electoral roll and can vote in the local elections on May 22.

"The number of foreigners on the electoral census in these towns is more than the number of votes needed to obtain one councillor or more," he stated.

In the north of Alicante province and south of Valencia the towns include Calpe, Jávea, Teulada, La Nucía, Alfaz del Pi, Finestrat, Benidorm, Gandia and Oliva.
