Costa Almería News | Noticia British embassy adviser Alexandra Brown and Consul Steve Jones have been told in blunt terms what will happen to the expat community in the Almanzora valley if the Spanish government fails to resolve the illegal property scandal soon. Ms Brown and Mr Jones were in Almería on Tuesday to discuss property issues with expats and the newly-appointed mayors of Arboleas and Vera. During the low-key visit the two first travelled to Albox, where they met with some 20 homes owners, including Maura Hillen, the president of the AUAN association fighting to legalise homes in Almería, and Helen Prior, whose house was bulldozed by the Junta in January 2008. The two heard British homeowners criticise both the Spanish government and the Junta de Andalucía’s efforts to resolve the crisis – such as the much-vaunted decree - and were warned that many expats, fed up with the legal uncertainty and the ongoing court battles with the Junta, were upping sticks and returning to Britain.
